Elephant Ivory - Knife Handle Material

Elephant Ivory Info

Description

For the purposes of this reference, this page will refer to Elephant Ivory only. Since the CITES treaty has made it illegal to import Elephant Ivory from after 1989, the amount available has been reduced significantly, and in general it is seen less on knives than Mammoth or Mastadon Ivory.

All Elephant Ivory available on the market is either Pre-Ban ivory or illegally smuggled ivory being sold as Pre-Ban. With all the legal Mammoth Ivory available, sometimes it is not worth the risk, and importing and exporting items using elephant ivory can be complicated. Elephant Ivory has a much lighter appearance than Mammoth Ivory, without the dark bark associated with it.
